L'organisation fonctionnelle des plantes à fleurs
Observe the formation of pollen tubes from pollen grains.
Proposed activity:
Pollen grains of a fresh stamen are deposited on concave slides covered with medium and are cultured in humid enclosures.
After a few hours, or even a few days (depending on the time of year and the type of flowers used), the pupils can observe with a stereo microscope or microscope the swelling of the pollen grains and the construction of the pollen tube. The results obtained are observable during one week by storing the humid enclosures at 4° C after germination.
