This kit makes it possible to test the effect of the presence of intestinal microbiota on the movement of Drosophila.
Students will carry out two activities in parallel:
1) Dissection of the Drosophila larva that has developed on a normal medium, or on a medium with an antibiotic. They will conduct a GRAM stain and observe under a microscope the presence or absence of intestinal bacteria in the digestive tract of the larva (slides, slide covers and stains not supplied).
2) Fly capture (using observation tubes provided) and video tracking of a fly sample developed on media with or without antibiotics. In this way they will compare the speeds of movement thanks to a monitoring software (free).
They will be able to deduce from this that the microbiota has an important role on the locomotive performance of fruit flies.
Composition for 10 to 15 pairs of students:
