This large format model provides a better understanding of how fluid density and heat transfer are associated with fluid convection during the circulation of ocean currents.
This model consists of two graduated containers connected by two independent taps.

Thanks to the taps, the flow of fluids is under control!

Coloured hot water and cold water are introduced into each of the two containers connected by the taps (refill of dyes available under reference COURCOL). By opening one or two taps, the whole class can observe the phenomenon of convection.
By closing the taps, the convection conditions can be modified during the experiment, by adding ice cubes or salt for example.
The volume of circulating fluid and the transfer time can be measured using the graduations on each container.
