With the PASCO thermal expansion device, students can accurately and easily study the expansion of metals at increasing temperatures.

Brass, copper and aluminium tubes are included so students can compare the expansion coefficients of different metals. The fluid used to heat the tubes may be water or steam at any temperature. We recommend using our steam generator (not included).
Each tube has an integrated thermistor housed under a short length of insulation that does not affect the results, but makes the tubes easier to handle.

Measurement of the dilation of the rod with a resolution of 0.01 mm
Integrated thermistor: A 10k thermistor is connected directly to each tube and the temperature can be determined using a digital ohmmeter or a data logging temperature sensor (see PS-2125).
Heat with steam or water: The fluid used may be steam or water at any temperature.
Three metal tubes in suspension: each tube is firmly fixed on the rigid base. The other two can be mounted simultaneously on the base for convenient storage.
